The company was founded on January 1, 1999 after I spent 32 years in property assessment with the Ministry of Finance, Province of Ontario, Canada. On October 1, 2000, I incorporated my company as Property Tax Ontario Inc. I have extensive knowledge in all types of property valuation for property tax purposes, including 12 years of quality auditing of the assessment processes and procedures.I have developed and provided training courses across the province training assessors in valuation techniques as well as quality improvement measures in the performance of their duties. This experience, knowledge and background has proven beneficial in my consulting business, assisting property owners in reducing their taxes and making recommendations to these property owners to ensure that their future property alterations and plans will not adversely affect their taxes in future reassessments. It is my policy to maintain confidentiality for all information sent to me in the performance of my duties and service to my clients.
I am a fully accredited appraiser with a DAC designation from the Canadian National Association of Real Estate Appraisers (CNAREA). In addition, I hold my M.I.M.A. accreditation with the Institute of Municipal Assessors and I have recertified my accreditation numerous times during my career. During my assessment career I specialized in Residential, Farm, Multi-Residential and investment type Commercial/Industrial properties. In 2008, I became a Licensed Paralegal through the Law Society of Upper Canada, specializing in Property Assessment Appeals at the Assessment Review Board.
I developed this web site to assist those property owners who wish to appeal their property assessment/taxes but need some assistance in knowing what to do and how to do it. Many individuals appeal their property assessment expecting that, if they appeal, the assessor will automatically have their assessment reviewed and the assessor will then see the error he/she has made and reduce the valuation on the property, thus lowering the taxes. In reality, this is not the case. However, if the property owner comes to the Assessment Review Board with a well-planned out case their chances of success are greatly increased.
The second objective of this site is to make property owners aware that my company is available to assist or act on their behalf to get their taxes/assessment lowered.
